It was the first building built with the two and a half million grant that the State offered to commemorate the Centenary of the Sites. The Magna Board agreed to dedicate it to the functions of Provincial Artistic and Archaeological Museum, permanent commercial, industrial and agricultural exhibition, home of the Monument Commission and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Luis.
The lands for its construction were ceded by the Town Hall in the Huerta de Santa Engracia. The construction architect was Ricardo Magdalena with the collaboration of Julio Bravo Folch.
