The Provincial Museum is located in the building known as CASA DE LA COMUNIDAD, former palace headquarters of the Community of Teruel and its villages, which was built in the second half of the sixteenth century.
It is a large stone building, with a masonry facade topped by an arcade of fifteen bays and above it an airy loggia of Doric columns forming, as a whole, one of the most beautiful and noble examples of the Aragonese Renaissance style and, doubt, the best of the city of Teruel.

During the nineteenth century the building suffered various vicissitudes and successive sales until it became private property. The Provincial Council, aware of the value, not only monumental but historical that the property has for the city of Teruel, agreed to purchase it in session on April 26, 1973, to be allocated to the headquarters of its Provincial Museum. By Decree of February 14, 1974 was declared a National Historic Artistic Monument being, from this moment, restored at the expense of the General Directorate of Fine Arts and the Provincial Council itself, scrupulously respecting its original invoice and returning its former status. It was inaugurated on March 2, 1987.

The building has four floors (the first divided into ground floor and mezzanine) and the stables, with a perfect layout and masonry vaults, which preserve their mangers intact. The Museum is intended, basically, to house collections of ethnography, prehistory and archeology.

The Museum, in addition to a broad research activity, organizes cycles of conferences, exhibitions, and other informative activities. It has a specialized library and work rooms for researchers that enable the study of museum funds.
It also has photographic and cartographic archives, and a documentation center that provides all types of information to researchers and scholars. The facilities are completed with a temporary exhibition hall, a restoration workshop, and a photographic laboratory.
