Comarca del Jiloca in Aragon
Municipality Peracense belongs to the county Comarca del Jiloca

Castle of Peracense.

The impressive Peracense Castle is a fortress perched on a secluded cliff in the Menera mountain range.

It was built towards the first half of the 14th century for strictly military use. Its northern and eastern slopes are impregnable.
In the south and west, a right-angled wall about 3 meters thick was built, reinforced by three rectangular towers.
There are loopholes and many battlements remain. Currently, it is in the process of restoration.

The entrance to the castle is a narrow gate at the edge of the cliff. The fortress has an irregular square plan, occupying about 4,000 m2. It is divided into three enclosures. Only the front wall remains of what was the Torre del Homenaje.
The interior area is the parade ground, measuring about 60 x 40 meters. In it we can see a kind of niches that must have been used to store food and for the warriors to protect themselves from the cold.

Archaeological remains have been found (tombs,...).
From the heights you can see spectacular views of the surroundings.
