The Mudejars were the Muslims who remained under Christian rule after the Spanish Reconquest (XI - XVI) until their forced conversion in 1526.
These population centers created their own neighborhoods, called Jewish quarters or morerías, in the cities and their Mosques became churches.
Thus began a new architectural style born of Islamic heritage and Muslim and Christian contributions.
