This Basilica was declared a National Monument in 1904.
In 1771, Goya was commissioned to paint some sketches for the Coreto vault of the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pilar, in Zaragoza.

Thus in 1772, Goya made the fresco Adoration of the Name of God for the Coreto, where he placed the characters in successive planes of clouds, thus creating perspective.

The Queen of Martyrs (Regina Martyrum), painted in 1780/81. Technique, fresco/wall. It is located in a dome of the north nave.

Dome Queen of Martyrs"

It represents the Virgin Queen surrounded by angels, martyrs and saints (mainly Aragonese). Among the saints, San Lorenzo, Santa Engracia, San Valero, San Pedro, San Pablo and Santo Dominguito de Val stand out.

Las Pechinas: Faith, Patience, Strength and Charity painted in 1781.
Technique, frecos/wall.
They represent moral virtues with allegories. The broken mode, with fulminating zig-zag brushstrokes, justifies Bayeu's irritation to whom it seemed like a revolutionary way of painting.
